Agenda of the program

ASIAPACIFICED FALL 2005 BEST PRACTICE INSTITUTE
September 30 – October 20, 2005
East-West Center
Honolulu, Hawaii

Notes
Each step of workshop will be supported by learning theory emphasizing application of models of instruction used as actual “best teaching
practices.” Presenters will remind participants to make these connections as well as provide time for sharing of possible applications for their own
classrooms. Different models for transitions and group organization will be embedded in scaffolded lessons promoting student voice & inquiry.
Class meetings are held throughout the Institute sessions as a model to demonstrate the importance of student-centered learning and
collaboration. Each meeting is focused on exercising one or more practices for effective class meetings, building on both content learning and
democratic involvement. Specific questions will be developed to guide class meeting and panel discussions where they are not noted. Content
pieces in week three are meant to emphasize the importance of integrating curriculum….especially for English language teachers.

Additional notes on program logistics/schedule
Both Asian and U.S. teachers will arrive in Honolulu on Friday (9/30). All participants will be staying at the Doubletree Alana Hotel in Waikiki. We are planning a welcome reception either at the hotel or the East-West Center from 5 to 7 on Friday evening. For Saturday morning (10/1), we are looking into organizing an optional field trip/easy hike to a nature site significant to Hawaiian history/culture. No scheduled activities for Sunday(10/2).
